When I was first approached by my good friends Julie and Simon Freeman of excellent Like the Wind Magazine, to write about an epic multi-day trail that I'd done in the Pyrenees, I didn't have to think twice about saying yes. Nor did I have to think hard about what trail to write about, having just run the Tour de Monte Perdido Extreme.

Running Wild is one of those trail running books that if you noticed in a book store, you'd be hard pushed not to pick up. And even more hard pushed not to buy. It's simply gorgeous and I'm beyond chuffed and proud to be one of the writers and trail runners to have contributed to this beautiful book.

Split into 16 chapters, the book by Thames & Hudson takes readers on a journey around the world through the eyes of the writers/runners who know the trails.

For me, having moved to the Pyrenees six years ago, I've been on a non-stop tour of discovery, searching out epic trails that make me go wow! And when I stumbled upon the 46km Tour de Mont Perdu - or the 'Monte Perdido Extrem' as it's known in Spain, I was totally entranced.

On paper, at a smidgeon over a marathon distance, 46km doesn't sound too far. It's the 3,820m of climbing up and down is what hurts a little. But boy was it worth it. It's a bit like doing a tour of the great rock start of the Pyrenees - the Cirque du Gavarnie, the Breche de Roland, the Canyon d'Ordessa - it's all there.
